| Adoption, Implementation and Data Migration: Lagos State University Library Experience KOHA Adoption, Implementation and Data Migration: Lagos State University Library Experience The study explores the adoption, implementation and data migration of Koha Integrated Library System (ILS) by both library staff and users at the Lagos State University Library. The University was using commercial software before adopting Koha. The study adopted a survey design, using questionnaire as the instrument for gathering of data, to sample user’s opinion on the software utilization and general perception, and also to evaluate level of satisfaction of library staffs. A total of 37 library staff and 207 (undergraduate and post-graduate) students participated in the study. The data collected were analyzed using simple percentage tables. The data analysis revealed that its excellent features have made it popular and continues to receive improvement and upgrade by the library patrons. It has also increased the use of OPAC by library patrons in searching for library resources from any comfort zone. Library staff rated high the performance of the cataloguing, circulation, patron and OPAC modules of Koha. The findings also revealed that the level of satisfaction and utilization by library staff were very high due to its friendly interface. It concludes by proffering solutions to the observed problems like staff training and retraining on software design and networking, fostering synergy with some units of the universities such as Information and Communication Technology (I.C.T.) Unit of the university for the purpose of strengthening the system.

This presentation will describe how we have used open source software to innovate and thrive in a generally risk-averse organizational environment. It will touch on our contribution to the Koha community in the UK, software developed in-house using the LAMP stack, and our use of other open source software and engagement with other communities such as Samvera.

8:30 AM – 9:00 AM | Open Source Software as Free Culture This presentation links and contrasts free and open source software (FOSS) including Koha, with open access (OA) publishing. Library workers broadly accept the values and principles of OA, with many of us both advocating and practically facilitating OA in our work; however the same is however not true of FOSS where we see reticence and a relative lack of bold and ambitious action. The reasons for this, and practical routes to overcome these challenges will be explored. The experience of University of West London Library Services will provide a case study in how our strategic planning can reflect free culture beyond OA, and strategically link OA and FOSS in professional practice.

Koha Community Code of Conduct
From: https://koha-community.org/about/policy/code-of-conduct/
All delegates, speakers, sponsors and volunteers at any Koha event are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organisers will enforce this code throughout the event.
The Quick Version
Koha event organisers are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of event participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any event venue, including talks. Event participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the event without a refund at the discretion of the event organisers.
Harassment includes, but is not limited to:
- Violent threats, intimidation or personal insults directed against another person
- Verbal, graphic or written comments related to gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race or religion
- Posting sexually explicit or violent material
- Stalking or following, including harassing photography or recording
- Sustained disruption of talks or other presentations
- Inappropriate physical contact or sexual attention
- Posting (or threatening to post) other people’s personally identifying information
- Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior
- Repeated harassment of others. In general, if someone asks you to stop, then stop
The Less Quick Version
Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. Sponsors are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, sponsors should not use sexualized images, activities, or other material. Booth staff (including volunteers) should not use sexualized clothing/uniforms/costumes, or otherwise create a sexualized environment.
If a participant engages in harassing behavior, event organisers retain the right to take any actions to keep the event a welcoming environment for all participants. Event organisers may take action to redress anything designed to, or with the clear impact of, disrupting the event or making the environment hostile for any participants.
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of event staff immediately. Event staff can be identified by a clearly marked “STAFF” badge, button or shirt.
Event staff will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance.
We expect participants to follow these rules at all event venues and event-related social activities. We think people should follow these rules outside event activities too!
This code of conduct is borrowed, slightly modified, from the folks at Evergreen who borrowed it from the folks at GopherCon, who borrowed it from JSConf, with permission. A section is adapted from the OpenStack Summit Code of Conduct.
